Deborah Handy
Middle School Coordinator
English & History Teacher

In coming to The Eliot Montessori School, Mrs. Deborah Handy returned home. She attended Eliot School as a child when it was part of the Natick public school system. Those happy years inspired her to become a teacher, although she tried other sorts of work before the perfect opportunity presented itself in Ohio. In addition to teaching middle school English at two wonderful independent schools, Mrs. Handy continued graduate studies in the humanities, delighted in singing with a choir, and raised her daughter.

After almost twenty years, Mrs. Handy moved to Maine, “to be closer to her soul” as a friend observed. There she found another wonderful opportunity teaching in a small Montessori school. She immersed herself in the ideas and practices of Maria Montessori until events called her back to Massachusetts. At Eliot, Mrs. Handy has found her professional home. Here she teaches middle school in a Montessori setting and takes great delight in every day.
